Geography has a present - and a future

Finally, geographers get some well-deserved press. It’s funny, when I first chose Geography as my major, I had very little idea of what I was getting into. But the field is growing quickly, and everywhere I turn, I can see new uses for geospatial analysis, software, and thinking.

There are both public and private uses for these technologies. I’m not sure where I want to work yet, but I’ll find a way.

It’s not much, but I think it’s worth checking it. Also worth reading: an introductory article to internet mapping. However, GIS software still works these programs for many serious endeavors, such as transportation planning (see below). This is what I do at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the regional transportation coordinating body for the SF Bay area.
